India Imposes Cess on Domestic Crude Oil, Raises Excise Duties on Fuel Exports, and Increases Gold Import Duty.
A cess of Rs. 23,250 per tonne has been imposed on domestically produced crude oil, exempting imports, to address windfall gains from rising prices. Small producers and additional production are exempt from this cess. Special additional excise duties have been introduced on exports: Rs 6 per litre on petrol, Rs 13 per litre on diesel, and Rs 6 per litre on aviation turbine fuel, ensuring domestic availability without affecting local prices. Additionally, customs duty on gold has increased from 10.75% to 15% to curb imports and manage the current account deficit. These measures are aimed at stabilizing the domestic market.
