India Sets Non-Basmati Rice Export Limits: 25k Tons to Nepal, 20k to Sri Lanka, 300k to Bangladesh.
The Indian government has outlined the export quantities of non-basmati rice to Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh, with 25,000 tons, 20,000 tons, and 300,000 tons respectively, through designated agencies. Indonesia has expressed interest in purchasing 500,000 tons of rice through a government-to-government agreement, but no decision has been made. As of November 1, 2011, India holds 260.83 lakh tons of rice in its central pool, which is sufficient to meet domestic needs under the Targeted Public Distribution System and other welfare schemes until the next season.
