With this in view, the Government of India has set up PCRA in 1978 as a society, registered under the Society Registration Act, 1960. It has been given the mandate to promote conservation of petroleum products in the major sectors of economy like transport, industry, households and agriculture.
In reply to another query, he informed that the development and exploitation of oil & gas reserves requires a certain timeframe, which depends on location/size of discovery, availability of infrastructure and other oil fields services.
