        Government of India

Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas

        08-December-2011 18:27 IST

The Minister of State Petroleum and Natural Gas Shri R.P.N. Sing informed in the Lok Sabha in a written reply today that about the savings in the last four years on account of various activities carried out by Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA), as assessed by a third party, he informed that these include 1493 crore in 2010-11, 1,123 crore in 2009-10, 890 crore in 2008-09 and 692 crore in 2007-08

The Minister added that PCRA is engaged in promoting energy efficiency in various sectors of the economy by proposing policies and strategies for petroleum conservation. It carries out programmes for promoting awareness about oil conservation, organizes training programmes and promotes several activities directed towards oil conservation including change in consumer behavior.

Shri Singh also said that the Government looks upon oil conservation through its efficient utilization as a quicker, efficient and economic source of energy. With this in view, the Government of India has set up PCRA in 1978 as a society, registered under the Society Registration Act, 1960. It has been given the mandate to promote conservation of petroleum products in the major sectors of economy like transport, industry, households and agriculture.

In reply to another query, he informed that the development and exploitation of oil & gas reserves requires a certain timeframe, which depends on location/size of discovery, availability of infrastructure and other oil fields services.
