<h1>CCI Closes 88 of 166 Cases Under Competition Act Sections 3 & 4; Investigates Price Hikes in Key Sectors.</h1> The Competition Commission of India (CCI) aims to eliminate anti-competitive practices, promote competition, protect consumer interests, and ensure trade freedom in India. By November 28, 2011, CCI had received 166 cases under sections 3 and 4 of the Competition Act, closing 88 of them. Additionally, it received 50 cases from the former MRTP Commission, closing 41. Under sections 5 and 6, 9 out of 12 cases were resolved. CCI is investigating issues affecting consumers, such as price hikes in sugar, cement, steel, airfare, and onions. The CCI operates as an autonomous, quasi-judicial body.
