India's Hazardous Waste Rules: E-Waste and Plastic Scrap Can Be Imported for Recycling, Medical Waste Import Prohibited.
The import of hazardous wastes into India, including e-waste, plastic scrap, and clinical wastes, is regulated under the Hazardous Wastes (Management, Handling and Transboundary Movement) Rules. These rules permit the import of recyclable wastes like plastic scrap and e-waste solely for recycling, recovery, or reuse purposes. However, the import of hazardous medical waste, classified under entry A 4020 in Schedule VI of the rules, is strictly prohibited. This information was provided by a government official in response to a query in the Rajya Sabha.
