IRDA Enhances Health Insurance Access for Seniors: No Exit Age Limits, Fair Premiums, and Grievance Channels.
The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA) has implemented several measures to improve health insurance access for senior citizens in India. Since 2007, insurers have been required to allow policy entry until at least age 65. In 2008, a separate channel for addressing senior citizens' insurance grievances was established. By 2009, insurers were instructed to provide written reasons for denying coverage and ensure fair, transparent premiums. Recently, IRDA advised insurers to eliminate exit age restrictions, ensuring age alone does not disqualify individuals from obtaining health insurance. This information was provided by the Minister of State for Finance in a Lok Sabha session.
