India Achieves Record Foodgrain Production of 241.56 Million Tonnes in 2010-11, Boosted by New Agricultural Initiatives.
During the 11th Plan period, India's foodgrain production reached a record high of 241.56 million tonnes in 2010-11, up from 208.60 million tonnes at the end of the 10th Plan. Wheat production increased by 16.58 million tonnes, pulses by 4.07 million tonnes, and rice by 7.39 million tonnes. This growth was attributed to new schemes like the National Food Security Mission, National Project on Management of Soil Health Fertility, and the National e-Governance Plan in Agriculture. These initiatives aimed to enhance production and promote sustainable agricultural practices, with plans to continue these efforts in the 12th Plan.
