NASSCOM Reports IT Recruitment Slowdown in FY 2009-10 Amid Recession; Andhra Pradesh Shows Growth with New SEZs.
The National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) reported a slowdown in recruitment in the IT sector during FY 2009-10 and late FY 2008-09 due to a recession in developed economies. Employment in the IT/ITES industry increased from 21.96 lakh employees in FY 2008-09 to 25.40 lakh in FY 2010-11, with net additional employment of 1.90 lakh, 1.00 lakh, and 2.40 lakh over these years, respectively. While state-specific data is unavailable, Andhra Pradesh experienced recruitment growth, and new IT/ITES Special Economic Zones (SEZs) are expected to further boost employment.
