Task Force Recommends National Information Utility for PDS to Boost Transparency and Manage Subsidy Transfers.
A Task Force on IT strategy for the Public Distribution System (PDS) submitted its report to the Finance Minister, following a mandate to develop an IT strategy for direct subsidy transfers for food and kerosene. Chaired by the head of UIDAI, the Task Force recommended establishing a National Information Utility, named the Public Distribution System Network (PDSN), to manage PDS computerization. The strategy involves two phases: enhancing information transparency and developing a Core Subsidy Management System. The Finance Minister approved the report in principle and urged the Ministry of Consumer Affairs to implement it promptly, with potential guidance from the EGoM.
