India, Andhra Pradesh, and World Bank Sign $328M Loan Deal to Boost Public Health Services.
The Government of India, Andhra Pradesh, and the World Bank signed a $328 million loan agreement to enhance public health services in Andhra Pradesh. The state has shown commitment by allocating 5% of its public expenditure to health, reducing maternal and infant mortality rates, and increasing institutional deliveries. Despite progress, disparities in health service coverage and rising non-communicable diseases persist. The loan will support innovative approaches to improve healthcare access and quality, including certification of health centers, private sector engagement, pharmaceutical management, and patient feedback systems. The loan from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development has a 23.5-year maturity with a 6-year grace period.
