Corporate Identity Number

The Minister of State in the Ministry of Corporate Affairs Shri R.P.N. Singh today informed the Lok Sabha that the Corporate Identity Number (CIN) is mandatory for all types of companies registered in India and no company can function with out a CIN.

Replying to a written question the minister said as on 25.07.2011 the total number of private and public companies are as under:

Private Companies: - 1029363

Public Companies: - 116603

Corporate Identity Number mandatory: companies must obtain and use unique identifiers for lawful operation and compliance. The Corporate Identity Number (CIN) is a mandatory unique identifier for all companies registered in India; every company, irrespective of type, must obtain and use a CIN and cannot lawfully operate without it. The requirement is a fundamental compliance obligation tied to corporate registration, statutory records, and the Registrar's issuance and maintenance of company identification.
