Minister Shri Nitin Gadkari inaugurated NITI Aayog’s International Conference on Sustainable Growth through Material Recycling: Policy Prescriptions”
The conference hopes to identify policy prescriptions for the development and growth of material recycling in India towards
NITI Aayog’s International Conference on“Sustainable Growth through Material Recycling: Policy Prescriptions”was today inaugurated by the Minister Road Transport & Highway, Government of India Shri Nitin Gadkari in the presence of Shri Rajiv Kumar, Vice Chairman, NITI Aayog and Shri Amitabh Kant, CEO, NITI Aayog. The conference brings together a host of experts for identifying policy prescriptions for the development and growth of material recycling in India towards creating more jobs, reduce dependence on exports, protect the environment and take steps towards adopting circular economy concepts.
In his inaugural speech, Minister emphasised that citizen participation is the key towards a successful recycling movement. “Recycling will increase growth, create wealth, and generate employment”, said the Minister. Dr. Rajiv Kumar in his keynote speech brought out the benefits of recycling and reuse on environment, economy and the social sector and emphasized on short, mid and long term targets so that material recycling can reduce our reliance on finite resources, virtually eliminate our dependence on landfills and minimise the impact on our environment for the sustainable development of the Indian state and the wellbeing of all its citizens. Shri Amitabh Kant in his address to the gathering emphasised India’s ambition to grow sustainably at double digits. Government endorses the importance of recycling & believes that it will benefit all major sectors of the Indian economy, said Shri Amitabh Kant.
Five technical sessions were conducted in the conference namely- “Circular Economy in Material Recycling”, “Infrastructural Issues in Recycling Industry”, “Standardization and certification in Recycling Industry”, “Environmental Benefits of Material Recycling”, “Financial and Taxation issues in Recycling Industry”, “Financial and Taxation issues in Recycling Industry” respectively, followed by a Valedictory Session chaired by Dr. V K Saraswat, Member, NITI Aayog.
Material recycling policy prescriptions to boost sustainable growth, jobs and circular economy through targeted reforms and stakeholder participation. NITI Aayog's conference sought policy prescriptions to scale material recycling in India to create jobs, reduce export dependence, protect the environment, and advance a circular economy. Emphasis was placed on citizen participation and on setting short-, mid- and long-term targets to lower reliance on finite resources, minimise landfill use, and support sustainable development. Technical sessions addressed circular economy strategies, infrastructural challenges, standardization and certification, environmental benefits, and financial and taxation issues to inform policy and implementation.Press 'Enter' after typing page number.
