May 2018 CPI Shows Inflation at 4.87% Overall; Food Prices Rise, Urban Areas See Lower Inflation.
The Central Statistics Office released the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for May 2018, with a base year of 2012=100. The CPI for rural, urban, and combined areas showed inflation rates of 4.88%, 4.72%, and 4.87%, respectively, compared to May 2017. The Consumer Food Price Index (CFPI) indicated inflation rates of 3.85% for rural, 1.66% for urban, and 3.10% for combined areas. The data reflects a general increase in prices across various categories such as food, clothing, housing, and miscellaneous goods and services. The next release is scheduled for July 12, 2018.
