LPG Prices Surge by Rs. 32 per Cylinder, Biggest Hike in 6 Years Due to GST Implementation.
Domestic cooking gas (LPG) prices have increased by up to Rs. 32 per cylinder, the largest hike in six years, following the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST). The subsidised LPG rate in Delhi rose from Rs. 446.65 to Rs. 477.46 per 14.2-kg cylinder. Under the previous tax regime, LPG had zero excise duty and varied VAT rates, but GST imposes a 5% tax on subsidised LPG, raising prices in states where VAT was previously lower. In Mumbai, prices increased by Rs. 14.28 due to a prior 3% VAT. Households receive 12 subsidised cylinders annually, with market rates applying beyond that.
