India Launches National Capacity Building Project for Urban Waste Management in 68 Cities Under 2016 Waste Management Rules.
The Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Government of India, established six waste management rules in 2016, covering plastic, e-waste, bio-medical, construction and demolition, hazardous, and solid waste. As part of the Swachh Bharat Mission, a National Capacity Building Project was launched in 68 cities to aid Urban Local Bodies and stakeholders in implementing these rules. The National Productivity Council, in collaboration with the Central Pollution Control Board, coordinates this project. It aims to enhance waste management practices, promote the 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle), and improve urban health. A Training of Trainers Programme is scheduled for June 2017.
