SEBI Implements Reforms to Boost Commodity Derivatives Market; New Participants and Products to Be Introduced.
Regulatory reforms are ongoing to enhance commodities derivatives markets following the merger of the Forward Markets Commission with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) in 2015. SEBI, in collaboration with the Commodity Derivatives Advisory Committee and stakeholders, is implementing initiatives such as allowing new participants and trading of new products like options, and integrating commodity derivatives with other markets. The government plans to form an expert committee to create a framework integrating spot and derivatives markets, benefiting farmers. SEBI currently employs risk-based supervision for intermediaries but has not proposed this for commodity derivative brokers.
