India's Silk Exports Face Challenges with Demand Drop in US, Europe; New Growth in UAE, Malaysia, Nigeria.
The export of silk and silk products from India has faced challenges due to decreased demand in major markets like the USA and Europe, rising raw silk prices, and increased competition from blended silk products. Despite these issues, exports are growing in new markets such as the UAE, Malaysia, and Nigeria. India relies on importing high-grade silk from China, as domestic production is currently at a lower quality. To boost exports, the Indian government is enhancing domestic production of high-quality silk through research, development, and initiatives like the Cluster Development Programme and introducing new products and incentives under the Foreign Trade Policy.
