Indian Railways to Boost Cashless Payments with 10,000 New POS Machines in Collaboration with State Bank of India.
During April to December 2016, about 59% of reserved tickets in Indian Railways were booked using cashless methods such as internet and credit/debit cards. In the freight business, cashless transactions exceeded 99%. To further promote cashless transactions, Indian Railways plans to install 10,000 Point of Sale (POS) machines in collaboration with the State Bank of India. These machines will be prioritized at PRS locations, suburban UTS locations, parcel/goods locations, and other UTS locations. The GPRS-based POS machines operate independently of the Railways' communication system. This initiative was announced by the Minister of State for Railways.
