This change aims to enhance the utility of shared tax information. The Minister of State for Finance informed Parliament that India has also signed the Multilateral Convention on Mutual Administrative Assistance in Tax Matters to facilitate such exchanges. Additionally, the Enforcement Directorate provisionally attached assets worth Rs. 9,298 crore in 2016. It is estimated that over 2,000 tonnes of gold are held by households, trusts, and institutions in India.
