RBI Lifts Daily ATM and Current Account Withdrawal Limits; Savings Account Cap Stays at Rs. 24,000 Weekly.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced the removal of restrictions on daily ATM and current account withdrawals, effective February 1, 2017. However, the weekly withdrawal limit of Rs. 24,000 for savings accounts remains in place, pending future review. This decision follows the remonetisation process after the November 2016 demonetisation of Rs. 500 and Rs. 1,000 notes. Banks are now allowed to set their own ATM withdrawal limits. The RBI continues to encourage digital payments and the shift from cash to non-cash transactions. These measures were initially implemented due to currency shortages post-demonetisation but have been eased as new currency notes were introduced.
