<h1>Copyright Act Administration Moves to Industry Ministry; Copyright Board Setup Expected 2017-18 Following Rule Amendments.</h1> The administration of the Copyright Act, 1957, was transferred to the Department of Industrial Policy Promotion under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry following an amendment to the Government of India (Allocation of Business) Rules, 1961, on March 21, 2016. Subsequent amendments were made to the Copyright Rules, 2013, regarding the terms for the Chairman and Members of the Copyright Board. Steps for appointing the Chairman have been initiated, and vacancies for two members have been advertised. The establishment of the Copyright Board is anticipated in the financial year 2017-18, as informed by the Commerce and Industry Minister in a Lok Sabha reply.
