The administration of the Copyright Act, 1957 was transferred to Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion (DIPP), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, subsequent to the amendment in the Government of India (Allocation of Business) Rules, 1961 on 21st March, 2016. The department has amended sub-rule (1) of rule 3 of the Copyright Rules, 2013 related to the “terms and conditions of the office of the Chairman and Members of the Copyright Board” vide gazette notification dated 12th August, 2016. The department has taken further necessary steps for the appointment of Chairman, Copyright Board. Vacancy circular/ advertisement for the appointment of two Members of Copyright Board has also been published in the Employment News dated 05th November, 2016. The Copyright Board is likely to be established during the next financial year 2017-18.

Administration of Copyright Act transfer prompts amendment to Board terms and initiates appointments process. Administration of the Copyright Act was transferred to the Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion and the department amended sub rule (1) of rule 3 of the Copyright Rules to revise the terms and conditions of office for the Chairman and Members of the Copyright Board; procedural steps for appointing a Chairman and advertising vacancies for two Members have been taken, with the Board's establishment projected in the next financial year.
