Petrol Pumps in India Start Dispensing Cash via Debit Cards to Ease Demonetization Woes; Daily Limit Rs. 2000.
By 4 p.m. on November 18, 2016, 686 petrol pumps began dispensing cash via debit card swipes. This initiative, involving Indian Oil Corporation Limited, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, in partnership with the State Bank of India, aims to alleviate currency shortages following the demonetization of Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 notes. Customers can withdraw up to Rs. 2000 daily at select pumps with SBI POS machines. The plan is to expand this service to 2500 pumps nationwide, with future extensions to 20,000 pumps. Cashless transactions are encouraged, and petrol pumps will accept old notes until November 24, 2016.
