CBEC Cancels Appointments of 111 Counsels After Tenure Ends, Plans to Form New Panel for Representation.
The Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) annulled the appointments of 111 Senior and Junior Standing Counsels, as their three-year tenures had concluded. This decision was based on guidelines that limit the tenure to three years from the date of appointment. The CBEC is in the process of forming a new panel of counsels to represent it in High Courts and other forums. This information was provided by the Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha.
