PFRDA Urges States to Boost Atal Pension Yojana for Broader Coverage Among Unorganized Workers, Encourages Co-Contribution.
The Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) is urging State Governments to support the Atal Pension Yojana (APY) to enhance its reach. Launched in 2015, APY aims to provide old age income security for the working poor, especially those in the unorganized sector. Despite over 31 lakh subscribers, wider coverage is needed. State Governments are encouraged to register unorganized workers, such as those in health and agriculture, and to co-contribute to the scheme, enhancing future pensions. States like Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, and Himachal Pradesh have already begun contributing between Rs. 500-Rs. 1000 annually for eligible subscribers.
