Commerce and Industry Minister, Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, held a bilateral meeting with Mr. Sajid Javid, Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, UK, in New Delhi today.
During the meeting, both the leaders discussed issues of mutual interest. Both sides expressed hope to take proactive steps to deepen their ties and engagement in near future. Several issues related to bilateral trade and investment were discussed.
Commerce Minister said that we are happy to engage with UK to talk about trade in goods & services & investments. She said post Brexit, FTA with UK will be a fresh exercise & work on FTA with EU will continue with a re-calibarted approach .Smt. Sitharaman said we have invited Chief negotiator from UK's side to engage with our Chief negotiator to take forward the entire process.
Free trade agreement negotiations to be initiated with UK post-Brexit; negotiators to engage bilaterally soon. Post-Brexit bilateral engagement prioritises initiating fresh free trade agreement negotiations with the UK while continuing work on an EU FTA with a recalibrated approach. Both sides signalled intent to deepen trade and investment ties across goods, services and investment. The Commerce Minister confirmed an invitation for the UK chief negotiator to consult with India's chief negotiator to advance and operationalise the bilateral FTA negotiation process.Press 'Enter' after typing page number.
