<h1>Over 24 crore RuPay Cards issued under PMJDY by January 2016, promoting financial inclusion and insurance benefits.</h1> As of January 31, 2016, 24,85,79,824 RuPay Cards have been issued, according to the National Payments Corporation of India. To promote RuPay Cards, the Government of India launched the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) on August 28, 2014. This initiative aims to provide universal banking access, financial literacy, and access to credit, insurance, and pensions. PMJDY account holders receive a RuPay Debit Card with an inbuilt accident insurance cover of Rs. 1 lakh.
