EPFO Removes 5-Day Grace Period for Employer Contributions Under EPF, EPS, and EDLI Schemes Starting February 2016.
The Employees Provident Fund Organisation of India announced the removal of the five-day grace period for employers to remit contributions and administrative charges under the EPF Scheme 1952, EPS 1995, and EDLI Scheme 1976. Previously allowed due to manual wage calculations, the grace period is now deemed unnecessary as employers can compute wages and liabilities electronically and make payments via internet banking. Starting February 2016, employers must pay contributions within fifteen days of the month's end, aligning with the EPF MP Act 1952 requirements. This change is approved by the Central P.F. Commissioner.
