The Government has launched Jan Aushadhi Scheme to make available generic medicines at affordable prices to all through Jan Aushadhi Stores. As a regulatory measure, National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority regulates the prices of essential medicines. All the medicines specified in national list of Essential Medicines 2011 (680 medicines at present) have been brought under price control.

The Government has launched the India Aspiration Fund in August 2015 with the initial corpus of ₹ 2,000 crores to pick up equity in start-ups. This Fund will go into investment in funds started by State Governments and financial institutions for investment in start-up companies. This Fund will help abridge the gap between talented idea pool and the investors.

This information was given by the Minister of State(Independent Charge) in the Ministry of Commerce & Industry Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman in a written reply in Lok Sabha today.

Medicine price regulation expands statutory control and generic distribution; a public fund-of-funds supports equity investment in start-ups. The policy makes generic medicines available through designated stores to improve affordability, while applying statutory price control to all medicines on the national essential medicines list. Separately, a public fund-of-funds has been created to invest in funds run by state entities and financial institutions to provide equity financing to start-ups and bridge the gap between innovators and investors.
