                     India and Japan today exchanged notes vide which Japan committed an approximate amount of Rs. 2557 crore to fund the three projects in India. The Notes were exchanged between Mr. Prabodh Saxena, Joint Secretary Department of Economic Affairs, Government of India and H.E. Mr. Hideaki Domichi, Ambassador of Japan to India. Through this Exchange of Notes, Japan has committed an amount of Yen 46.401 billion (for the first batch of FY 2010 JICA ODA loan package) to fund the following 3 (three) projects :-

        The total cost of the project appraised by JICA was JPY 6.035 billion and Government of Japan committed a total of JPY 5.001 billion.         Tamil Nadu Biodiversity Conservation and Greening Project

        The total cost of the project appraised by JICA is 12.899 billion. Govt. of Japan has committed JPY 8.829 billion for the project. The objective of the project is to strengthen biodiversity conservation by improving ecosystem and the management capacity as well as undertaking tree planting outside the recorded forest areas, thereby contributing to environmental conservation and harmonized socio-economic development of Tamil Nadu.

        Yamuna Action Plan  Project (III)

        The total cost of the project appraised by JICA is 40.663 billion and Govt. of Japan has committed JPY 32.571 billion for the project.   The objective of the project is to improve the water quality in River Yamuna by augmenting sewage treatment capacity with renovation, rehabilitation and replacement of the existing sewerage system and by implementing public outreach activities in National Capital Territory of Delhi, thereby contributing to improvement of public health conditions for inhabitants.

                     With today’s Exchange of Notes, the cumulative commitment of ODA from Japan has reached to JPY 3164.82 billion (Exchange Rate: JPY 100 = Rs. 55.10).  However, India continues to be the highest recipient of ODA from Japan.

                     India and Japan have had a long and fruitful history of bilateral development cooperation since 1958.  In the last few years, relations between India and Japan have steadily progressed based on India – Japan Global Partnership.  The visits of the Indian Prime Minister to Japan in 2006, 2008 and 2010 and the visit of Japanese Prime Minister to India in 2007 and 2009 have further strengthened the India-Japan Global Partnership by adding greater substance to the bilateral relations based on India-Japan Global Partnership.
