        The WPI for the week ended 29th January, 2011 in respect of ‘Primary Articles’ and ‘Fuel & Power’ is given below:

        PRIMARY ARTICLES (Weight 20.12%) 

        The index for this major group declined by 1.4 percent to 191.8 (Provisional) from 194.6 (Provisional) for the previous week.

        The annual rate of inflation, calculated on point to point basis, stood at 16.24 percent (Provisional) for the week ended 29/01/2011 (over 30/01/2010) as compared to 18.44 percent (Provisional) for the previous week (ended 22/01/2011). 

        The groups and items for which the index showed variations during the week are as follows:-

        The index for ‘Food Articles’ group declined by 2.8 percent to 186.9 (Provisional) from 192.2  (Provisional) for the previous week due to lower prices of fruits & vegetables (11%), moong (4%), condiments & spices (3%) and jowar and masur (1% each).  However, the prices of fish-marine (7%),      arhar (4%) and barley and gram (3% each) moved up.

        The index for ‘Non-Food Articles’  group rose by 2.5 percent to 183.5 (Provisional) from 179.0  (Provisional) for the previous week due to higher prices of sunflower (21%), castor seed (14%), raw cotton (10%), fodder (3%) and copra, coir fibre, linseed and rape & mustard seed (1% each).  However, the prices of niger seed (7%), flowers (4%), raw silk (3%) and mesta (2%) declined.

         

        FUEL & POWER (Weight 14.91%)

        The index for this major group remained unchanged at its previous week's level of 151.9 (Provisional).

        The annual rate of inflation, calculated on point to point basis, has also remained unchanged at its previous week’s level of 11.61 percent (Provisional) for the week ended 29/01/2011 (over 30/01/2010).
