Hyundai, Reva, and Premier Violated Competition Act: Restrictive Practices in Spare Parts Market Exposed by CCI.
The Competition Commission of India found Hyundai Motor India Ltd., Mahindra Reva Electric Car Company, and Premier Ltd. in violation of the Competition Act, 2002. The companies were found to have imposed restrictive agreements with local suppliers and dealers, foreclosing the aftermarket for spare parts and diagnostic tools, thereby abusing their dominant market positions. This conduct denied market access to independent repairers. The Commission ordered these companies to cease such practices and make spare parts available to customers and independent repairers. Hyundai was fined Rs. 420.26 crores, while Reva and Premier were exempted from monetary penalties due to mitigating factors.
