(d) The free trade agreements (FTAs) complement the principles and agreements of the World Trade Organisation (WTO). India considers these agreements as building blocks towards achieving the multilateral trade liberalisation objective.
The information was given by the Minister of State (Independent Charge) in the Ministry of Commerce & Industry Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman in a written reply in Rajya Sabha today.
Free trade agreements expand bilateral and regional market access while complementing multilateral trade liberalisation under WTO frameworks. Free trade agreements, preferential trade agreements and limited preferential arrangements entered into by India set reciprocal tariff and market-access arrangements with bilateral, plurilateral and regional partners and are catalogued with signing and implementation dates. The document lists bilateral treaties, region-wide pacts and comprehensive economic cooperation agreements, identifies separate preferential arrangements with margins of preference, and records ongoing negotiations to expand FTAs and PTAs; it states these arrangements complement multilateral trade liberalisation under the WTO. of Press 'Enter' after typing page number.
