The Central Statistics Office (CSO) estimates and disseminates all India figures for Gross Capital Formation (GCF), which is an indicator of investment, state-wise estimates of GCF are not maintained. GCF in ‘industry’ at current prices for the country  in  2010-11, 2011-12  and 2012-13 was  ₹ 2,680,579 crore,  ₹ 3,031,658 crore  and ₹ 3,242,727 crore respectively. These estimates pertain to Mining & Quarrying, Manufacturing, Electricity, Gas & Water supply and Construction which together constitute ‘industry’ in National Accounts.

Estimates of employment generated through GCF in industries are not available. Employment estimates are disseminated separately by the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO), in terms of ratios, based on periodic surveys. As per the 66th (2009-10) and 68th (2011-12) Employment and Unemployment Survey rounds of NSSO, the per 1000 distribution of usually employed persons in industry for all India and state-wise, is given in the Annexure.

Annexure referred in reply to part (b) of THE Rajya Sabha Unstarred Question No. 2922 FOR ANSWER on 06.08.2014 regarding ‘Investments in industry’.

Source: NSSO Reports of 66th & 68th rounds.

Note: Industry comprises Mining & Quarrying, Manufacturing, Electricity, Gas and Water Supply and Construction.

The information was given by the Minister of State (Independent Charge) in the Ministry of Commerce & Industry Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman in a written reply in Rajya Sabha today.

Gross Capital Formation in industry: national estimates reported; state employment distribution provided via NSSO surveys indicating sectoral shares. CSO publishes all India Gross Capital Formation (GCF) for the sectoral aggregate 'industry' and does not maintain state wise GCF; employment estimates linked to industry are instead provided by NSSO via the 66th and 68th Employment and Unemployment rounds, which give per 1000 distributions of usually employed persons in industry at all India and state levels, tabulated in an annexure and identifying the sectoral composition.
Cases where this provision is explicitly mentioned in the judgment/order text; may not be exhaustive. To view the complete list of cases mentioning this section, Click here.
