CAG Audit Reveals Irregularities in MPLADS Implementation; Calls for Corrective Actions by State and District Authorities.
The Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) is implemented by District Authorities following State Government rules. Monitoring involves the Central and State Governments, District Authorities, and Implementing Agencies, as outlined in MPLADS guidelines. The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation conducts regular reviews, including national-level meetings and visits, and engages independent agencies for third-party physical monitoring. A Performance Audit by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) for 2004-2009 was completed in 2010-11. Findings from monitoring and audits are communicated to State Governments and District Authorities for corrective actions, including penalties and fund recovery in cases of irregularities.
