Government is to try to connect more and more People of Indian Origin (PIO) and Non Residential Indians (NRIs) abroad with India and in its economic process so that it will be mutually beneficial for India, PIOs and NRIs, said Minister of Overseas Indian Affairs, Smt. Sushma Swaraj.
After assuming office as Minister of Overseas Indian Affairs, Smt. Swaraj said, her effort will be to involve in and attract, as much as possible, PIOs and NRIs to their root.
She said, being in charge of two key Ministries of External Affairs & Overseas Indian Affairs, which are closely inter-related, it will be now easier, convenient and more effective in yielding the desires result.
The Minister added that now, the Indian Missions abroad will be more sensitised and the problems, issues faced by Indians abroad can be addressed in a more effective and fruitful manner because the work and function can be coordinated better.
Smt. Swaraj said, the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas will now be organized in a more vibrant way so that PIOs and NRIs can participate in it, involve themselves with it emotionally and can connect themselves with the country of their origin.
Diaspora engagement: strengthening PIO and NRI connections through coordinated ministries and enhanced consular outreach and events. The policy aims to expand engagement with People of Indian Origin and Non-Resident Indians by attracting them into India's economic and cultural processes, and to operationalize this through closer coordination between External Affairs and Overseas Indian Affairs, enhanced sensitisation of Indian Missions abroad, and more vibrant organisation of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas to increase participation and address issues faced by Indians overseas.Press 'Enter' after typing page number.
