CCI Fines Bengal Chemist and Druggist Association Rs. 18.38 Crores for Anti-Competitive Practices, Restricting Discounts.
The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has fined the Bengal Chemist and Druggist Association (BCDA) Rs. 18.38 crores for anti-competitive practices. The penalty follows investigations into allegations that BCDA issued directives preventing retailers from offering consumer discounts and insisted on selling drugs at maximum retail price (MRP). The CCI found these actions restricted trade, stifled competition, and harmed consumers. The BCDA and its office bearers were ordered to cease these practices and submit compliance undertakings. Penalties were set at 10% of turnover for responsible office bearers and 7% for executive committee members, payable within 60 days.
