A decision has been taken in the ASEAN Economic Ministers Meeting-India consultations 2013, to initiate review of India-ASEAN Agreement of Trade in Goods signed in 2009. The second review of India-Singapore Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement signed in 2005 is currently under progress. It has agreed to have a meeting of Joint Committee to review implementation of the India- Malaysia Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement signed in 2011.

There is no immediate proposal to seek FTA with Taiwan as under the present circumstances, there does not seem to be any great advantage to India from an FTA with Taiwan.

The information was given by the Minister of State in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry Dr. E.M. Sudarsana Natchiappan in Rajya Sabha today.

FTA review of India-ASEAN and bilateral CECA agreements progresses; no FTA proposal with Taiwan due to limited advantage. A formal review has been commenced of the India-ASEAN Agreement on Trade in Goods (2009), the second review of the India-Singapore CECA (2005) is underway, and a Joint Committee will review implementation of the India-Malaysia CECA (2011); there is no active proposal for an FTA with Taiwan as it offers no clear advantage under present circumstances.
