India and ADB Sign $200M Agreement for Uttarakhand Reconstruction: Roads, Bridges, Urban Infrastructure and Helipads to be Rebuilt.
The Government of India and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) signed a $200 million agreement for the Uttarakhand Emergency Assistance Project, aimed at aiding reconstruction following the June 2013 disaster. The project will rehabilitate 1,800 km of roads, 16 bridges, and improve urban infrastructure, including water supply facilities and tourism infrastructure across five districts. Additionally, it plans to build 50 helipads for emergency operations. The project, expected to conclude by September 2016, is largely funded by ADB, with the Indian government contributing $5 million. The loan has a 25-year term with a 90:10 grant-loan ratio for Uttarakhand.
