India-Pakistan Trade Unaffected by Border Tensions, Progress in SAFTA Talks and Business Forum Initiatives Continue.
Bilateral trade between India and Pakistan is primarily conducted via the Mumbai-Karachi sea route and the Attari-Wagha land route. Despite recent incidents on the Line of Control, trade has remained unaffected, with significant exchanges recorded over the past three years. Dialogues to enhance trade relations were re-initiated in 2011, leading to multiple rounds of talks and ministerial dialogues. Notable progress includes Pakistan's shift from a Positive List to a Negative List regime, expanding tradable items, and India's liberalization of investment restrictions. Both countries have agreed on a roadmap for Preferential Trading Arrangements under SAFTA, with the first Joint Business Forum meeting held in June 2013.
