E-payment of TDS: electronic deposit is available though not strictly mandatory; bank challans remain permissible.
Electronic payment facilities permit deposit of TDS through authorised e-payment portals and NSDL, but the legal requirement to remit TDS electronically is not explicitly established; physical deposit via bank challans remains permissible while practitioners recommend adopting electronic channels where available to streamline compliance. (AI Summary)

Dear Freinds, As per Press release E- Payment of taxes has been made mandatory for certain category of tax payers and general feeling was that it is for Advance Tax, FBT and BCTT. However at Income tax site FAQ www.incometax.gov.in says that TDS also needs to be deposited by way of e-payment, moreover payment facility by debit/ credit card is not as yet activated. Please advice as many assessee have deposited April TDS as they used to deposit by phyiscally depsoiting Challans at banks. Best Regards CAbhuvnesh

3. Though strictly as per the provisions, there is no reqirement to effect E-payment for TDS, Payment facility provided in NSDL website includes payments of TDS also. Hence it is better to start effecting payment of TDS thru e-payment mode.
