Dear Sir,

With reference to forth comming Finance Budget 2013-14 to be produced on 28.02.13. If there is any change in Excise duty rates announced by Finance Minster whether increase or decrease in Excise Duty Rate. When it would be applicable.

Immediate effect of duty changes under provisional tax collection law; budget-announced excise and customs rates apply upon notification. Under the Provisional Collection of Taxes Act, 1931, excise and customs duty rate changes announced in the Budget are given immediate effect upon notification and are implemented pending formal adoption, with administrative operation preceding later regularisation. By virtue of Provisonal Collection of Taxes Act, 1931, the changes with regard to excise duty and customs duty rates would be given immediate effect (which will be notified from 1st Mar) and the changes will be formalised after adoption of Union Budget proposals later.  Thus, excise duty or customs duty rates announced in the Budget would come into immediate effect.
