IMPORT OF OFFICE EQUIPMENT & FURNITURE UNDER EPCG

Dear Sir, we have taken one lot of machineries along with office equipments and office furniture. We are bringing machineris under EPCG.  We also intend to bring office equipment and office furniture under EPCG. Can we bring this under EPCG ? Is their any provision in EPCG to bring office furniture or any alternation is avaialble under foreighn trade policy.

Capital goods definition excludes office furniture for EPCG, requiring alternative schemes for duty-free import by service providers. Office equipment and furniture are excluded from the capital goods definition for EPCG because that definition lists spares, tools, jigs, fixtures, dies and moulds; thus EPCG cannot be used to import office furniture. Advance Licence is not suitable for importing finished furniture as it targets raw materials. Service providers may access duty-free import of furniture under the SFIS, subject to that scheme's terms and eligibility conditions. (AI Summary)

As per the para 5.1.f of the FTP 2009-2014, Capital goods shall include spares, tools, jigs, fixtures, dies and mould.

Hence, furniture for office can't be imported under EPCG scheme.

1. Only to service provider and that too with terms and conditions.

2. Advance Licesne is for raw material.

3. You can import Furniture etc. duty free if you are a service provoider under SFIS scheme.
