IMPORT OF OFFICE EQUIPMENT & FURNITURE UNDER EPCG

SANJEEV JADHAV

Dear Sir, we have taken one lot of machineries along with office equipments and office furniture. We are bringing machineris under EPCG.  We also intend to bring office equipment and office furniture under EPCG. Can we bring this under EPCG ? Is their any provision in EPCG to bring office furniture or any alternation is avaialble under foreighn trade policy.

Office Furniture Not Eligible for Import Under EPCG; Consider SFIS for Duty-Free Import as Service Provider. A user inquired about importing office equipment and furniture under the Export Promotion Capital Goods (EPCG) scheme. A respondent clarified that, according to the Foreign Trade Policy 2009-2014, office furniture cannot be imported under the EPCG scheme as it does not qualify as capital goods. The user then asked about importing under an Advance License, to which another respondent explained that Advance Licenses are for raw materials and suggested that service providers might import furniture duty-free under the Service Exports from India Scheme (SFIS).
