Excise exemption for small scale industries permits limited annual duty relief under notification, subject to turnover eligibility and quarterly returns. Exemption from central excise duty for small scale industrial units is available where a unit's aggregate clearances in a financial year fall below a prescribed ceiling and the unit's prior-year turnover does not exceed an eligibility cap; eligible units may file excise returns quarterly.
