Refund of DDT - When Return Filed Online

Guest

AY 2011-12

One of our Client has paid Dividend Distribution Tax taking surchage as 10% instead of correct 7.5%. Therefore, there is an excess payment of DDT of 2.5%. However, the return was filed online. There is no column for claiming refund of DDT in the return of income.

How to claim refund of excess DDT paid.

Thank you

Dividend Distribution Tax refund: submit details and a formal refund request to the Assessing Officer when online return lacks a refund field. A taxpayer who paid excess Dividend Distribution Tax due to an incorrect surcharge cannot claim the excess via the online return because it lacks a refund column; the remedial step is to submit details, supporting documentation and a formal refund request to the Assessing Officer for consideration. Have you approached the AO with details and request letter for refund of the same? He should allow you refund of excess paid.
