Dhirendra Srivastava
Regarding taxability of LTA,Rule says for air fare not more than economy class of national carrier. In case some one goes on private carrier aircraft and air fare is less than national carrier, whether it will be allowed as exempted? Also , whether boarding pass is necessary to be submitted for claiming deduction? Now booking is on line.Whether bill of travel agent and copy of online air ticket is sufficeint for claiming deduction?
Ensure LTA Claims: Attach Boarding Pass, Online Ticket; Keep Within National Carrier Fare Limits per Tax Rules. A query was raised regarding the documentation required to claim a Leave Travel Allowance (LTA) deduction, specifically whether a bill from a travel agent and a copy of an online air ticket are sufficient. The discussion highlighted that, according to tax rules, the airfare should not exceed the economy class fare of a national carrier. A reply suggested that while a copy of the online ticket is necessary, it may not be sufficient to prove the journey was undertaken. To ensure compliance, attaching a boarding pass is recommended, and claims should be within the national carrier's fare limits. (AI Summary)
