Deduction for mediclaim premium u/s 80D

Sahil Shah

Dear Experts,

I have a joint mediclaim policy for my parents. My father is a senior citizen and mother is not senior citizen. So which deduction to be claimed? 25000 or 50000? (50000 is for senior citizens u/s 80D)

Thanks in advance!!

Claim Rs. 50,000 Deduction for Joint Mediclaim Policy with Senior Citizen Parent under Section 80D. An individual inquired about the appropriate deduction amount under Section 80D for a joint mediclaim policy covering their parents, where the father is a senior citizen and the mother is not. They questioned whether to claim Rs. 25,000 or Rs. 50,000, given the senior citizen status of one parent. A respondent advised that Rs. 50,000 could be claimed since one parent qualifies as a senior citizen under Section 80D. (AI Summary)
