IGST on Import

KUMAR Narasimhan

Dear Sir/Madam,

A GST registered person bringing the Imported goods along with him in flight for selling that product in India.

Should the IGST to be paid for the product during the customs clearance in the Airport. Please help me to understand the customs procedure with respect to the above situation.

IGST Exemption on Imported Goods via Flight: Customs Duties Apply, Personal Baggage Exemptions Explained, Commercial Goods Face Penalties. A GST-registered individual inquired about the Integrated Goods and Services Tax (IGST) applicable on goods imported via flight for sale in India. Responses clarified that during customs clearance, goods are assessed, and exemptions exist for personal baggage. Commercial goods cannot be imported as baggage; they are subject to higher baggage duty rates and may incur redemption fines and penalties. However, IGST is exempt if the duty is paid at the baggage rate. The discussion aimed to clarify customs procedures and tax implications for such imports. (AI Summary)
