NRI status can apply, but income credited in India remains taxable and taxes paid are not refundable; reimbursements possibly non taxable.
Income that accrues or is received in India remains taxable in India unless relief is available under a double taxation avoidance agreement; taxes paid in India on income received in India are not refundable simply because one attains non resident status. Reimbursements for business expenses credited in India may not be taxable if they fall within prescribed FEMA limits and applicable tax rules. (AI Summary)
