Service Tax Liability Clarified: Tax applies if service provider's turnover exceeds 10 lakh. Companies must pay if applicable. An individual received a labor bill for electrical work totaling 1,23,201, without any service tax mentioned. The question posed was whether to claim input tax and show service tax output liability. Two respondents clarified that if the recipient is a company, it must pay the tax, assuming the service provider's turnover exceeds 10 lakh. Otherwise, there is no tax liability for the recipient. The service provider is liable for service tax only if their turnover surpasses 10 lakh in the previous year. (AI Summary)
