TDS refund

Atul Kamboj

Sir ,

This query relates to F-Y:2013-14 ; A-Y: 2014-15. A senior citizen submitted form 15-H as late as June 2014 for the interest earned in the F-Y 2013-14 with the bank . The bank as abide by the law deducted TDS u/s 194-A ,since Form-15-H was not submitted for the first 2 quarters . On the receipt of 15-H by the bank , TDS was not deducted for the rest of the year .The annual salary + pension income +income from other source of the senior citizen does not exceed the prescribed taxable limit for the above- mentioned year . on 31-7-2015 , senior citizen submitted the Return Of Income as taxable NIL amount ,but forgets to claim for TDS refund . Kindly help ; suggest the remedy claiming for TDS refund as was wrongly deducted by bank. Thanks !!!

TDS refund: file a revised return to claim tax wrongly deducted despite late submission of Form 15-H. A senior citizen filed Form 15-H late; the bank deducted Tax Deducted at Source for the initial quarters and stopped thereafter. The taxpayer's total income was below the taxable limit and a nil return was filed without claiming the excess TDS. The recommended remedy is to file a revised return indicating the refund amount to claim the wrongly deducted TDS. (AI Summary)
